Ha Giang loop tour

The Ha Giang loop tour typically takes 3-5 days to complete, but it can be done in less time or extended to include side trips. Most cyclists choose to ride the loop clockwise to avoid the steepest climbs. The loop starts and ends in the city of Ha Giang, and takes you through several mountainous districts in the province.

Night 1: Hanoi- night train

Meet in hotel, transfer to train station at 20h30. Take overnight train to Lao Kai. Sleep on train.

Day 1: Lao Cai- Ha Giang ( cycling 90km )

Arrival Lao cai around 6:00 Am , after breakfast transfer to 60km then we start cycling to Ha giang . Overnight in Ha Giang. ( 7-8hours cycling, 2/5 hard climb ). ( B )

Day2:  Ha Giang to Quan Ba -Yen Minh : 82 km

We cycle uphill to Quan Ba for the first route before a descent of around 10km and then relatively flat terrain for the next 10km. It’s a challenging up and down terrain to an altitude of 1.025m before we make a final descent for the last 15km into Yen Minh.

Day3: Yen Minh Climb over the Rocky Plateau to Dong Van, and Meo Vac. 68 km

Today we cycle on semi-surfaced quiet roads as we undertake a challenging uphill ride out of dense cedar forest onto the rocky Dong Van plateau. A registered UNESCO Global Geopark, 80% of the terrain is covered by rock and it is said to contain fossils from 400-600million years ago.

Day 4: Meo Vac to Bao Lam: 75km

Today we follow a remote mountain road to Bao Lac. After a 5km uphill cycle we make a 20km descent the follow a fairly flat road for the next 10km. The surrounding landscape with predominantly limestone formations is a surreal vista of peaks, troughs, towers and caves.

Day 5:  Bao Lam- Ha Giang cycling 78km

Even in this isolated mountain town there is a busy morning market. We set off for a full day of cycling along challenging terrain but the road is quiet .

Day6: Ha giang – Hanoi

In the morning after breakfast we cycling out of the city (5 km). Then off road cycling through basically flat country side for some 35 km. After lunch we get back on the car and drive to Hanoi (230 km). End of services.
